Horseback Riding Horse Round up Laufskálaréttir

Pick up at the BSI bus station in Reykjavik at 08:30 am. Our bus will take you to Hvammur farm, where the horses and tour guides will be waiting for you. Our first ride takes us past the beautiful area around Lake Hop. We pass historical sites and cross the rivers Gljufura and Vididalsa until we arrive at our destination, Stora Borg farm, where we stable our horses for the night. On our way back to the farm we visit the old basalt cliff Borgarvirki, which was used as a fortress by the Vikings.

Today's ride takes us to the Nesbjorg cliff and a place called Vadvammur. From there we ride through Lake Hop. The Icelandic horses carry us safely through the shallow water and we can enjoy the experience of being carried through one of Iceland's largest lakes. We leave our horses at Thingeyrar farm and make our way to the horse show in Skagafjordur. In addition to the presentation of competition and breeding horses, there are also small shows and singing.

After a hearty breakfast, we make our way to Skagafjordur. Once there, we saddle our horses and ride together with the farmers to the free-range horses. The free-range herd spends the summer in the beautiful mountain landscape and the Kolbeinsdalur valley. They are driven to the pen Laufskalarett, where the farmers wait for us to sort the young animals, mares, and foals. We enjoy the event with traditional lamb, stories, and songs.

On our last day of riding, we start with the horses in Thingeyrar and make our way home to Hvammur farm. We cross the hills of the Vatnsdalur valley on the way. We might make a stopover at our friend Dora, who is an artist on the Vatnsdalsholar farm. We cross the river Vatnsdalsa and enjoy the last few miles on the back of our Icelandic horses.

It's time to say goodbye. After breakfast, the bus returns to Reykjavík. Approximate arrival: 2 pm.
