Riding tour on the most beautiful riding trails in south-west Iceland. Every morning a day ride starts in a new environment with spectacular rides in a small group with beautiful hotel accommodation. Experience the popular riding areas and horse villages just outside Reykjavik, soft trails in the beautiful Thjórsárdalur valley, the landscape at the foot of the Hekla volcano, and a ride along the Atlantic coast.
Pick up at the BSÍ bus station or a hotel in Reykjavik at around 5:30 pm on the day of arrival. Afterwards, we drive to the farm Vellir near Hveragerdi. We will have the opportunity to get to know each other and discuss the tour over dinner.
Start the riding tour along large pastures with a sweeping view across the river plains to the famous volcanoes Hekla and Eyjafjallajokull (weather permitting). Then you ride over soft meadow paths down to the sandy banks of the Olfusa river. The highlight of the day is the ride along the black beach not far from the small village of Thorlakshofn (depending on the tide, the tour can also start on the beach). In the midst of this impressive nature, you ride at a brisk oölt along the rivers and meadows back to the farm (approx. 16 miles).
The day begins with a drive to Reykjavik to the large stables. On the outskirts of the Icelandic capital is the marvelous Heidmork riding area with great trails, which we will test extensively. The landscape is surprisingly varied with lakes, forests, and lava formations. We start on the wooded shores of Lake Raudavatn and continue through the impressive pseudo-crater Raudholar. We enjoy a beautiful view of the capital area from the hills near Lake Ellidaarvatn, visit another typical Icelandic horse village, and return to the farm Vellir in the evening with the horse trailer. (approx. 12 miles)
The day begins with a drive towards south-east Iceland. The destination is the picturesque Thjorsardalur valley. The green valley, situated on the edge of the highlands, with its forests, streams, soft sandy soil, bizarre volcanic structures, and green hills offers an unforgettable riding experience. On the same day, we visit an excavated Viking farm and the hidden waterfall Gjainn. (approx. 14 miles)
We drive to the stable village of the nearby small town of Selfoss, to the green plains around the glacial river Hvita. Here, the volcanoes tower majestically over the landscape - an opportunity to try out the tolt against an impressive backdrop. We then leave the grassy riverbanks and ride along excellent bridleways through farmland back towards Selfoss. (approx. 14 miles)
After returning to Vellir farm, transfer back to Reykjavik at approx. 4:30 pm, arrival in Reykjavik around 5:30 pm.
