ARRIVAL - Reykjavik

Arrival in Keflavik and Flybus transfer to the hotel. Depending on your arrival, you will have time to visit the blue lagoon or sightsee the city.
The best-known of all treks in Iceland, this trail leads from the famous valley of Landmannalaugar in the southern highlands, south to Thorsmork valley north of the great Eyjafjallajokull glacier. On the way, you will cross the third-biggest geothermal zone in the world, pass yellow rhyolite mountains, black deserts and green valleys. Accommodation is in comfortable mountain huts. We set off together at 7:00 am from the BSI Bus Terminal in Reykjavik (Meeting at 6:30 am). We drive along the mountain road, past the Hekla volcano and other volcanoes in the Domadalur region to Landmannalaugar. We will have lunch there before heading south into the mountains. We hike to the mountain hut Hrafntinnusker, where we will spend the night.

From Hrafntinnusker, we hike downhill to the gullies of Jokultungut, whose landscape is characterized by hundreds of steaming hot springs and mud pools. From there, we have a fantastic view of Lake Alftavatn (Swan Lake) to the south and the glaciers Myrdalsjokull and Eyjafjallajokull. In the afternoon, we reach the Hvanngil hut at the foot of the green volcano Storasula. We will spend the night here.

Today, we leave the green oasis of Hvanngil and hike into the black desert of Maelifellssandur. The Hattfell volcano lies ahead of us as we hike in the Emstrur region, where farmers used to graze their sheep in summer. We visit the majestic Markarfljot gorge before reaching our accommodation for the night, the Botnar hut.

We hike further downhill through the narrow valleys of Emstrur. The Myrdalsjokull glacier is always in view, just a few kilometers away. In the afternoon, we reach the Thorsmork Valley, which is characterized by green meadows, colorful flowers, and birch forests. We spend the night in one of the huts, where we will have a barbecue together at the end of the day.

We start our last day with relaxed hikes along the many paths in the Thorsmork Valley. We can visit the Songhellir cave and climb the small mountains of Valahnukur. In the afternoon, the bus takes us back to Reykjavik, where our tour ends around 19:30 at the BSI bus station.
With many unique experiences in mind, it's time to say goodbye to the land of fire and ice. A shuttle will take you from the hotel to Keflavik Airport, from where you will start your journey home.
Overnight stays in single and double rooms are only possible in Reykjavik on the first and last day. During the hiking tour, accommodation is in simple mountain huts with shared dormitories.
