In Thingvellir National Park, the world's first democratic parliament was elected in 930. The plain lies in a geologically very interesting area. Iceland lies on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. This is the place where the drifting apart of the American and Eurasian continental plates can be clearly seen.
A visit to the area of the geysers is a must for every visitor to Iceland. Here you will find the mighty geyser and its smaller but very active brother Strokkur. The eruptions, which take place at regular intervals of 5-10 min, make it a popular photo motif.
Gullfoss is probably the most famous waterfall in Iceland, and you shouldn't miss it. It plunges over two large falls into a narrow canyon. Alternatively, relax in the naturally warm thermal waters of the Blue Lagoon or take a walk along the surf coast in the south.
