REYKJAVIK CITY TOUR & BORGARFJÖRDUR SAGA VALLEY

Northern Lights

At 9 am, we will meet our guide who will accompany us on this adventure. We will start with a city tour of Reykjavik before heading west to Borgarnes, where we will learn more about Iceland's history at the Settlement Centre. Then, we will drive to Borgarfjordur, also known as the Saga Valley, where many historical events have taken place.

We will have the chance to climb the crater of the Grabok volcano and visit Deildartubguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring. We will make another stop at the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, whose bright blue water flows over the black volcanic rocks.

In the afternoon, we will be given a lecture on the Northern Lights, which we will look for in the hotel garden after dinner. We will warm up with a cup of hot chocolate or tea.

SNAEFELLSNES PENINSULA: KIRKJUFELL - ARNARSTAPI - VATNSHELLIR CAVE

Kirkjufell

Today our journey takes us to the Snaefellsnes peninsula in the west of Iceland. We visit the fishing village of Grundarfjordur from where we can see the famous Kirkjufell mountain in the distance. We visit the villages of Arnarstapi and Hellnar before descending 115 ft. into the Vatnshellir cave. The cave and the lava tunnel lie beneath the Snaefellsjokull glacier and give us a unique impression of what the interior of the island looks like.

On the way back to Borgarnes, our guide gives us important tips on how best to photograph the Northern Lights. Today we will also look out for the bright colors of the Northern Lights in the dark and can relax in the hotel's outdoor hot tub.

GOLDEN CIRCLE - ICELANDIC HORSES - GEOTHERMAL TASTE

Geyser Strokkur

Today, we will be exploring the highlights of the Golden Circle. We will begin by driving along the Hvalfjördur fjord to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009. This park is home to the Althingi, the oldest parliament in the world. It's a unique opportunity to walk between two tectonic plates, as the North American and European plates are drifting apart here.

Next, we'll visit the geyser area, where we can witness the geyser erupting every few minutes, shooting hot water into the air. At the Geysir restaurant, we can sample fresh bread baked in the hot springs, accompanied by classic Icelandic dishes such as butter, scrambled eggs, and herring. Our last stop on the Golden Circle will be the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall.

In the afternoon, we'll learn about the Icelandic horse breed and visit a geothermal greenhouse. In the evening, we'll have the chance to witness the Northern Lights in this rural area.

LAVA CENTRE - SKOGAFOSS - REYNISFJARA

Skogafoss in Winter

Today, we will be exploring the stunning south coast of Iceland. Our first stop is the Lava & Volcano Exhibition Center, where we will discover intriguing facts about geology and volcanism. Next, we will visit the local folk museum to learn about Iceland's history and admire some old turf houses.

Then, we'll marvel at the Skogafoss waterfall, which cascades 200 ft. into the depths. In the afternoon, we will explore the black sand beach and bird cliffs at Reynisfjara. We will be staying near Kirkjubaejarklaustut in the Vatnajökull National Park region for the next two nights.

VATNAJÖKULL NATIONAL PARK - JÖKULSÁRLÓN - DIAMOND BEACH

Joekulsarlon ©Icelandic Explorer

After having breakfast at the hotel, we will drive to the enchanting Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. The lagoon is filled with icebergs of various sizes, and if we're lucky, we might spot seals resting on the floating ice. Adjacent to the glacier lagoon is the black beach Breiðamerkursandur, also known as Diamond Beach.

During the afternoon, we will visit the small turf church in Hof and explore the Vatnajökull National Park. In the evening, we'll have the opportunity to watch a movie presentation about the Northern Lights and, weather permitting, embark on a Northern Lights hunt.

VÍK - SELJALANDSFOSS - BLUE LAGOON - REYKJAVIK

Blue Lagoon

We start in Kirkjubaejarklaustur and travel through the Eldhraun lava field to the village of Vik, where we stop to take photos. We continue westwards to the Seljalandsfoss waterfall. If you want, you can go behind the waterfall for a spectacular photo, but be careful: you will get wet.

Afterward, relaxation is on the program as we drive to the Blue Lagoon. We bathe in the blue water and have a good time. Relaxed, we drive back to Reykjavik, where we will spend the last night.

REYKJAVIK - DEPARTURE

With many unique experiences in mind, it's time to say goodbye to the land of fire and ice. A shuttle will take you from the hotel to Keflavik Airport, from where you will start your journey home. Depending on flight times you can explore Reykjavik a little more.
