After enjoying a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we head to the stunning Thjorsardalur Valley. The valley is known for its diverse landscape of birch forests, sandy lava fields, rivers, waterfalls, and, weather permitting, views of the Hekla volcano in the distance. In Stong, we have the opportunity to visit a replica of a Viking longhouse that was buried during an eruption of Mt. Hekla.
Our journey then takes us along the scenic south coast, with stops at the picturesque waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, before reaching Dyrholaey, a rocky formation extending into the sea at the black beach Reynisfjara. Our day concludes with dinner in Vik, the southernmost town in Iceland.
*Please note that Dyraholaey is closed for the bird nesting season between mid-May and the end of June.
