We started our day with breakfast at the hotel before heading out to explore the extraordinary lava formations at Dimmuborgir. Local legends say that elves reside in these rocks, which resemble structures created by fantasy creatures. Following our visit, we made our way to Godafoss waterfall, one of the most renowned attractions in northern Iceland. The frozen waterfall left us in awe.
Next, we continued our journey to Akureyri, the capital of the north, where we took in the sight of charming buildings before driving along coastal roads to the Troll Peninsula. The drive treated us to stunning views of steep mountains and black sand beaches alongside the Arctic Sea.
We paused in the small town of Siglufjöodur in the fjord of the same name to visit the famous Herring-Era Maritime Museum. After our visit, we headed to Skagafjordur, a region known for breeding Icelandic horses, where we enjoyed dinner and spent the night in Northwest Iceland.
