Guided Northern Lights Tour

Itinerary

Dates and prices

Arrival - Reykjavík

Sun Voyager

After landing at Keflavik Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Reykjavik. Depending on your arrival time, you have the opportunity to book an optional day trip or explore the city. Dinner is on your own - Reykjavik has a variety of fantastic restaurants. Or book a food walk and try traditional Icelandic dishes.

THE GOLDEN CIRCLE: ÞINGVELLIR - GEYSIR - GULLFOSS

Geyser Strokkur

After a hearty breakfast, we will meet our guide in the hotel lobby and make our way to our first stop: the impressive Aurora Reykjavik Northern Lights Centre. There, we will receive a detailed introduction to the Northern Lights and learn the best methods for photographing or filming them.

Following this, we will head to Thingvellir National Park, where we will visit the oldest parliament in the world, the Althing. Another highlight of the national park is the fissure between the Eurasian and North American continental plates, which visitors can walk through. Our next destination will be the geothermal area of the geysers. Not only can we witness bubbling mud puddles, but we can also observe the famous Strokkur geyser spouting an impressive fountain of water every few minutes. We will then proceed to the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall, which partially freezes over in winter, creating a unique sight.

The rest of the day will be spent in the town of Laugarvatn, where we will visit a geothermal bakery and have the opportunity to sample fresh bread straight from the ground. Dinner and overnight accommodations will be in South Iceland. If the weather is favorable, our guide will take us on a hunt for the Northern Lights.

SOUTH SHORE: LAVA CENTRE - SELJALANDSFOSS - SKÓGAFOSS - REYNISFJARA

Seljalandsfoss

After having breakfast at the hotel, we will drive along the beautiful landscape of the south coast to Hvolsvollur. We will visit the Lava Centre, an interactive, high-tech exhibition about volcanic activity, earthquakes, and the formation of Iceland. If the weather is good, we can see Mount Hekla and the famous volcano Eyjafjallajokull from there.

We will then continue to visit the two waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss before travelling on to Reynisfjara Beach. At the beach, we can walk through the black sand and admire the unique basalt formations on the cliff while witnessing the mighty waves crashing onto the beach. Dinner and overnight stay will be in the Kirkjubaejarklaustur area.

VATNAJÖKULL NATIONAL PARK - JÖKULSÁRLÓN GLACIAL LAGOON

Joekulsarlon Glacier Lagoon

Today we immerse ourselves in the world of glaciers. We start in the southern part of Vatnajokull National Park, named after Europe's largest glacier. The national park covers around 13 % of Iceland's land mass, making it one of the largest national parks in Europe. We then drive to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, where we can admire the floating icebergs. With a bit of luck, we might see one of the harbor seals that like to swim through the lagoon or take a nap on the ice floes.

We then walk to the neighboring Breidamerkursandur, better known to many as the "Diamond Beach". The beach gets its name from the many pieces of ice that have washed ashore and glistened in the sunlight on the black sand. Our last destination for today is the Skaftafell area with its glaciers. Dinner and overnight stay in the Kirkjubaejarklaustur region.

Hveragerði - Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon

After breakfast at the hotel, we will head back to Reykjavik. On our way, we will stop at the village of Hveragerdi, which is one of the few inhabited places in the middle of a geothermal area. Then we will visit a horse farm where we can interact with Icelandic horses and enjoy some traditional refreshments. Our journey will then continue along the coast to the Reykjanes peninsula, and we will make a detour to the famous Blue Lagoon.

Departure

With many unique experiences in mind, it's time to say goodbye to the land of fire and ice. A shuttle will take you from the hotel to Keflavik Airport, from where you will start your journey home.
